Fly Fishing Education
Fly Fishing 101
Often the most over looked aspect of Fly Fishing Schools is FUN! proFlyFishers has developed an "easy to learn" new curriculum that is fun and educational—together with the always highly valued input of PFF Endorsed Outfitter "Fly Fish the San Juans". Introduction to Fly Fishing classes are taught stream side by Fly Fish the San Juans' PFF Certified Instructors, so we can show you real-life fishing challenges and give you the tools to be successful in those situations. Beginning or even Intermediate students learn many of the important basics about Entomology, Tools for the river, Fly Selection (how to make intelligent choices of correct patterns), both easy and practical Fly Casting, and Tack Management (fish fighting strategy and techniques). The goal of FF 101 is to provide the student with essential basic skills and confidence to approach new water and be able to implement the critical understanding of Fly Fishing tactics required to catch Trout. Naturally, it is impossible to teach more than the "basics" in Introductory classes, but with a solid foundation, the sport of fly fishing becomes much easier to master. Actually, our new Fly Fishing Students learn numerous all-important PFF fundamentals that many experienced Fly Fishers have yet to appreciate.
Fly Casting Classes
Having trouble learning to use your new fly rod, or do you just need a tune up before the season starts? A Casting Class with Fly Fish the San Juans may be just what you need! These classes are fully customizable to help you in whatever area of fly fishing you need. Classes are generally 1 to 2 hours and can be held in split sessions or on the water if desired. Learning the "Basic Physics" of Fly Casting as developed exclusively by proFlyFishers can dramatically improve your hook-up success.
Advanced Clinics
These classes are taught by our Master Level partners at proFlyFishers and are for those dedicated Fly Fishers who want to improve their Catch Rates and Specific Skills on the water. Stalking Trophy Trout, Dry Fly Presentation, Technical Nymphing, Advanced Fly Casting, Tack Management, and Ultra-Lite Clinics may profoundly change your world of Fly Fishing as it has ours. Trophy Trout in heavily fished public waters around the country are seldom taken by novice or intermediate level Fly Fishers. Having taken many PFF Advanced Clinics, we at Fly Fish the San Juans can attest to the phenomenal results on the river (see our FFSJ Photo Gallery). The proFlyFishers staff will give you the skills you need to have great success with clients on the river. The PFF Certification Program not only covers the knowledge you need to guide, but teaches you how to be a true professional in this very challenging discipline . FFSJ Guides are of course PFF Certified. This is an extremely rigorous Program for Fly Fishers who are not content with mediocrity.
Fly Tying Classes
Are you tired of paying big prices for flies that may or may not work on your local water? If so, take a fly tying class with Fly Fish the San Juans and we will teach you how to tie local favorites that work in southwest Colorado. Fly Patterns as developed exclusively by Fly Fish the San Juans' tiers in conjunction with proFlyFishers' "Fly Selection Simplified" Book, HD Video, and Clinics have resulted in our many phenomenal Fly Fishing experiences as evident in our Photo Gallery. Whether you are new to fly tying or need to learn new techniques, we can tailor a class to fit you needs. There is no greater satisfaction than catching a Trophy Trout on a fly you tied yourself.
